4-day adventure to the Belgium Space Centre

We kicked off bright and early at 4 am on Friday, November 1st, with a smooth drive to the ferry and even caught an earlier crossing! After arriving at the Euro Space Centre by 5pm, students got some fresh air with football and climbing before a delicious dinner. We wound down with a movie night, watching Paddington in the cinema hall (kudos to a few dedicated Year 11s who took time to study for their mocks!).

Saturday was packed with space activities! After a hearty breakfast, we dove right in at the Space Centre: centrifugal rotors, moonwalking simulations, rotating seats, the multi-axis chair, and a full space tour - only pausing for lunch and dinner. We capped off the night with an amazing tour of the Caves of Han, Europe’s oldest cave system! Mrs. Lemon counted 8,000 steps on her watch by the end of this breathtaking adventure, which included a light show in a massive cave.

Sunday brought more space exploration! After another big breakfast (we were fed well all weekend!), students enjoyed talks about life in space, pressure experiments, the free-fall slide, space command and pilot simulators, and even built and launched their own rockets! That night, a torchlit tour around Bouillon Castle brought history to life, laughter, and maybe a few new legends!

On Monday, after an early breakfast, we started our journey home with one last stop at a Belgian chocolate factory! Students got to make their own chocolate bars, learn about chocolatiering, and, of course, stocked up on plenty of treats. After dinner on the ferry, we enjoyed a calm crossing back and a sleepy coach ride home.

It was an incredible trip that left us exhausted, well-fed, and full of unforgettable memories. Every student showed amazing resilience, courage in trying new challenges, and willingness to step out of their comfort zones. There was no shortage of laughs, teamwork, and adventurous spirits—especially with the free-fall slide, 4G centrifuge, and space shuttle simulator amongst the highlights!

A huge thanks to Mr. Bailey, Mrs. Lemon, Mr. Blakey, and Mrs. Hawkins for making this OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD experience possible. Our students were truly stars!
