Children's Mental Health Week 2025

Monday 3rd - Kooth visit
Crookhorn College is fully committed to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing for all. In the run-up to this year’s #childrensmentalhealthweek, at the end of January, Carly from Kooth visited the College to promote their free, online service to all four Houses. Kooth provides safe and anonymous online mental health support to young people aged between 11 and 18. Funded by the NHS, young people can use Kooth to access free counselling, community support and self-help tools without the need for any sort of referral.
Tuesday 4th - Year 9 yoga
In their PSHRE lesson this morning, another one of our Year 9 groups completed their fourth yoga taster session delivered by our resident yoga instructor and College Governor, Jo Standen.
Yoga is a mind and body practice which can improve core strength, balance and flexibility. It can be a great way to help you to relax, manage stress and sleep better, amongst many other potential benefits, and we are delighted to be able to offer this experience to so many of our students.
Next half-term, Jo will be working with some of our Year 10 students as they return to College following their two-week work experience placements. A big thank you to Jo for her ongoing support of the College’s commitment to promoting positive mental health for all.
Wednesday 5th - Mental Health Workshop
As part of the College’s commitment to promoting positive mental health for all, we continue to work closely with the Havant Mental Health Support Team in further developing our whole College approach. Following the success of past parent/carer workshops on supporting your child with anxiety and low mood, we are delighted to be welcoming the team back to the College next Thursday to work with more parents and carers.
The aim of the workshops is to upskill parents and carers to better understand anxiety/low mood and the signs and symptoms of these in young people, as well as providing simple strategies to support their child at home. The workshops also provide a welcome opportunity for parents and carers to share experiences and find out about other additional support on offer both in the local area and online.
Thursday 6th - Time to Talk
Today is #TimeToTalk Day 2025: a chance for us all to be more open about mental health – to talk, to listen, to change lives.
Run by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, it is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. It’s a day for friends, families, communities, and workplaces to come together to talk, listen and change lives. Talking about mental health isn’t always easy, and sometimes it’s even harder to say how you really feel, but conversations have the power to change lives. The more conversations we can have, the better.
As part of the College's commitment to promoting positive mental health for all, in Tutor Time this week, the students have been discussing how our life experiences, memories and beliefs all contribute to our overall sense of self. Students have been considering their own strengths and things that they struggle with and how reflecting on both enables us to develop better self-awareness and helps us grow. Tutor Group discussions have focused on acknowledging that all emotions have a purpose and the importance of letting yourself feel and accept the range of emotions that you experience.
At Crookhorn, we are fully committed to fostering a culture where all members of our College community feel able to talk openly about mental health.
Friday 7th - Finding joy in the little things in life.
In a world that often feels fast-paced and overwhelming, it is easy to get caught up waiting for big moments or achievements to bring us happiness. However, true happiness can more often lie in appreciating the small, everyday joys that surround us. When we learn to find joy in the little things, life can become more meaningful, rich and fulfilling, therefore improving our mental wellbeing.
As part of this week’s Tutor activities programme, all Tutor Groups have been competing to create the longest list possible of the little things in life that bring them joy, whether that be in College, at home, out and about in the community or further afield.
Here is a snapshot of just a few of the lists submitted this week!
