Year 10 Health & Wellbeing Roadshow

As part of the College’s ongoing commitment to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing for all, last Wednesday we were delighted to be able to host our second UNLOC Health & Wellbeing Roadshow!

Throughout the event, 60 of our Year 10 students took part in a number of different activities linked to key public health issues including; smoking and vaping, healthy eating, vaccinations, healthy relationships, and mental health. Following an interactive myth-busting quiz and discussion task, the students explored a range of public health resources before being tasked with redesigning them themselves. They were also given time to dig deeper into the causes, consequences and possible solutions to their own choice of public health issues with impressive responses and contributions all round.

The students were later presented with the opportunity to apply for small community grants to support the implementation of their own ideas for improving wellbeing in our local community. Some excellent suggestions have been put forward by our students, and we are very excited at the chance for them to secure funding to put these into action – watch this space for further updates on their progress!

The roadshow also gave the students the chance to meet with representatives from the school nursing, children in care, vaccinations, patient engagement and EIP teams. Lots of the visitors commented on the maturity and thoughtfulness of their questions in finding out more about both the support and career opportunities on offer to them and their local community. There was also time for the students to complete a range of wellbeing and mindfulness activities, including creating their own fidget toys and gratitude journals. As ever, the freebies and the chance to test out the beer goggles were also firm favourites!

A big thank you to the team from UNLOC for organising and leading the roadshow and to the professionals that supported at the event for all of their efforts in making it such a success.
