2024
Another strong year of results for Crookhorn College with some excellent areas of strength. This year, 64% of all grades were at 9-4, compared to 57% in 2019. English and maths continue to perform at the national average, highlighting the strength of core subjects at Crookhorn. It was great to see the boys perform well in both English and maths, beating the national averages. The Open and Ebaac strands continue to grow, with the average grade improving from 2019. Our disadvantaged students continue to improve their overall performance, seeing an increase in their overall A8 grade. Our SEN-friendly classroom initiative continues to bear success, with low attaining students and SEN students continuing to outperform previous cohorts.

Exam Information
Please find the link below for access to the Government's comparison webpage. It is important that you read the statement below from the government before comparing schools. This data is also out of date.
There has been an uneven impact of the pandemic on school, college and multi-academy trust performance data. We recommend:
- Not making direct comparisons with data from previous years or between schools/colleges or MATs.
- Discussing with the schools/colleges or MATs factors that may have influenced these results and consider a range of information when forming a view on how well a school or college is doing, including pupil/student population information.

The table clearly shows positive progress was being made before the pandemic. From 2018 to 2019 you can see (in pastel pink) the areas we were making progress in or where the data was positive. The pandemic was an obvious setback where students lost 2 years’ worth of secondary education. The areas highlighted in green show how far we have come, not just rebuilding from Covid but actually surpassing previous scores in the vast majority of areas.
Key points
Context table
-
Attendance nationally has dropped from pre-pandemic levels. There is a direct correlation between attendance and performance at GCSE level. Our attendance for 22-23 and 23-24 was above national average, even with the high % of SEN and disadvantage across our College.
-
The % of students in the High band has dramatically decreased, halving in % terms. The low band has nearly doubled in size. This will affect our GCSE attainment 8 scores compared to pre pandemic.
-
Our % of FSM has more than doubled, which again will affect our P8 and A8 score.
-
We have seen a 5% increase in SENK and a 300% increase in EHCP.
Despite this picture with the context of the year group and the impact of the pandemic on their learning journey, our results show:
Results table
-
Performance against target since our last Ofsted visit has shown an improvement in attainment against FFT target. (See first row)
-
Our FSM A8 has also improved, beating pre pandemic performance. (See row 2)
-
Our SEN students have also got closer to target since 2018 results (see row 3)
-
Overall more of our students that should be getting basics are, with the performance against target improving rapidly (See row 4)
-
9-5 has seen an improvement from 2019 with significant improvement against target (See row 5)
-
The performance of the HA students in English and maths continues to improve, exceeding our FFT target. (see row 6)
-
English results continue to be positive, showing a consistency of performance (see row 7)
-
Maths achieved their best score against target in 24, beating pre pandemic levels (See Row 8)
-
Ebacc also saw their best results in 2024, beating all previous scores since the last inspection (see Row 9)
-

Grade method - explained
The mark/grade that you are awarded for a subject tells you how well you have done. The government decides how many ‘performance points’ a certain standard of work is worth. They do this within a ‘level’ structure.
At Crookhorn we offer GCSE’s (level 1 or 2) alongside a variety of vocational subjects that, depending on the course and the level achieved can be level 1 or level 2. We use a variety of exam boards, that may present their vocational grades in slightly different formats.
At GCSE, you can achieve a grade from 1-9.
Level | Grade | Performance Points |
---|---|---|
Level 1 | 1 | 1 |
Level 1 | 2 | 2 |
Level 1 | 3 | 3 |
Level 2 | 4 | 4 |
Level 2 | 5 | 5 |
Level 2 | 6 | 6 |
Level 2 | 7 | 7 |
Level 2 | 8 | 8 |
Level 2 | 9 | 9 |
As mentioned, vocational subjects, use different grade methods, but their equivalence to GCSE’s is measured with the Performance Points. Here’s what it looks like for Child Development, Creative iMedia, Dance & Music:
Level | Grade | Description in words | Performance Points |
---|---|---|---|
Level 1 | P1 | Level 1 Pass | 1.25 |
Level 1 | M1 | Level 1 Merit | 2 |
Level 1 | D1 | Level 1 Distinction | 3 |
Level 2 | P2 | Level 2 Pass | 4 |
Level 2 | M2 | Level 2 Merit | 5.5 |
Level 2 | D2 | Level 2 Distinction | 7 |
Level 2 | D2* | Level 2 Distinction* | 8.5 |
There’s a slight difference in the grade method and performance points for Catering, Construction & Engineering:
Level | Grade | Description in words | Performance Points |
---|---|---|---|
Level 1 | P1 | Level 1 Pass | 1 |
Level 1 | M1 | Level 1 Merit | 1.5 |
Level 1 | D1 | Level 1 Distinction | 2 |
Level 1 | D1* | Level 1 Distinction* | 3 |
Level 2 | P2 | Level 2 Pass | 4 |
Level 2 | M2 | Level 2 Merit | 5.5 |
Level 2 | D2 | Level 2 Distinction | 7 |
Level 2 | D2* | Level 2 Distinction* | 8.5 |
If you’re studying any vocational subjects, look out for these grades – now you know what they mean! Any questions, please ask Miss Fisher, our Exams Officer, or your subject teacher.
idsR action plan - impact 2023-2024
The IDSR provides an overview of the inspection data summary report (IDSR) for primary and secondary schools, including schools with a sixth form and gives guidance on interpreting the data. Below you will see our document, which highlights the 2023 results compared to 2024. This shows the tremendous increase in results across the board for the College and another indication of what makes Crookhorn such a great place to learn.
