Attendance and Absences
Crookhorn College believe that regular College attendance is the key to enabling children to maximise the educational opportunities available to them and become emotionally resilient, confident and competent adults who are able to realise their full potential and make a positive contribution to their community.
Crookhorn College values all students. We will work with families to identify the reasons for poor attendance and try to resolve any difficulties.
Regular College attendance is essential if children are to achieve their full potential.
Parents and students play a part in making our College successful. Every child has a right to access the education to which he/she is entitled. Parents and teachers share the responsibility for supporting and promoting excellent attendance and punctuality for all.
Students Leave of Absence
Amendments have been made to the 2006 regulations in the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2016.
Amendments to the 2006 regulations remove references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. The amendments make clear that Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
These exceptional circumstances may include:
- Funerals
- Weddings (day of, but not any subsequent holiday which may be attached)
- Hospital appointments and operations
- Personal family matter, such as welcoming home a parent from a tour of duty
This is not an exhaustive list and all requests will be assessed on an individual basis.
You can download a copy of our ‘Leave of Absence’ form below or collect a copy from the College reception.
